Richard Walters, CEO of New Ravenna, detailed the investment was made possible through the Virginia Leaders in Export Trade(VALET) Program and the Virginia Jobs Investment Program(VJIP). VALET is aimed at helping Virginia exporters accelerate their business and VJIP is through the Virginia Economic Development Partnership and helps companies expand. The company has invested in new machinery and warehouse space aimed to keep up with the rising demand for its custom built mosaics which are made here on the Eastern Shore.

“New Ravenna has been a key corporate partner to Northampton County and Virginia since it’s founding nearly 30 years ago, and we are thrilled the see the company reinvesting in its hometown operation,” said Governor Northam. “As one of the Easter Shore’s marquee companies, the global success of New Ravenna is an important example of what businesses can accomplish in rural Virginia. We look forward to many more years of growth for New Ravenna in the Commonwealth.”

The company has already hired several new employees from the Shore to work as machinists, but still needs to hire more artistic talent in order to expand it’s operation.

Other’s who spoke at Friday’s announcement included Senator Lynwood Lewis, Delegate Rob Bloxom and Exmore Town Manager and District 1 Supervisor Robert Duer, who stole the show.

New Ravenna was founded in the early 90s by Sara Baldwin and has since grown to have global demand for its products.
